AUSTIN – With a 94-81 win over UT Permian Basin the #8 St. Edward's men's basketball team moved their home win streak to 28 and improve to 22-2 on the season, 16-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
SEU got off to a shaky start as the game remained tight in the first half. The Hilltoppers had only a one-point advantage midway through the frame, 21-20, but just three minutes later SEU went up by 10 to lead 30-20.
By halftime the Hilltopper lead had swelled to 18, 52-34.
UTPB used halftime to their advantage and eventually came within ten points, 70-60, with just under ten minutes to play.
RYAN GARZA kickstarted another SEU run as the Hilltoppers went up by 21, 87-66, headed into the final media timeout.
The Falcons refused to give in, however, and clawed their way back to within ten with just under two minutes remaining, 87-77. St. Edward's was able to close out the game for the win.
Garza led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, going 7-10 from the floor and 6-8 from three-point range.
ASHTON SPEARS added 19 points,
LUCAS DORIA 12,
JAKE KRAFKA 11 and
COREY SHERVILL 10.
DORIAN LOPEZ grabbed ten rebounds in the win while
AUGUST HAAS had nine assists.
St. Edward's closes their regular-season home schedule on Saturday, facing Western New Mexico at 4 pm.
