EDMOND, Okla. – St. Edward's continued their strong start to the season, splitting Saturday action to move to 6-2 on the year.
GAME 1: SEU 3 – FHSU 2
Ashley Massie's RBI single in the top of the sixth proved to be the game-winner as Fort Hays managed two runs in the seventh before the Hilltoppers closed out the win.
SEU struggled to get going offensively, but finally posted a run in the fifth as Ashley Massie drove in the first run.
KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ doubled to right center in the sixth to score one more before Massie punched the third across.
Massie was 2-4 with 2 RBI in the win while Rodriguez was the only other Hilltopper to record a hit.
MCKENNA LEAMON earned the win in the circle, going four innings and allowing two runs on four hits with five walks and eight strikeouts.
EMILY KLANIKA entered to close out the game and earn the save.
GAME 2: SEU 5 – CCU 8
St. Edward's had their offense ready to go in game two, notching nine hits but left nine baserunners in the loss.
CCU took an early lead after a four-run second inning, but SEU pulled within one with a run in the third and two in the top of the fourth. Colorado Christian responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and was able to hold off the Hilltoppers from doing too much damage the rest of the way.
Genisa Marrero Carter and Kathryn Connally both posted two hits and two RBI to lead SEU at the plate.
REAGAN CARTER suffered the loss in the circle despite giving up just one earned run on four hits.
The Hilltoppers close action in Edmond with two games on Sunday, facing Central Oklahoma at 2 pm and Rogers State at 4 pm.
