DENTON – St. Edward's dropped a 67-61 decision against Texas Woman's on Thursday evening at Kitty Magee Arena.
The Hilltoppers (15-10, 11-9 LSC) had their three-game winning streak snapped by the Pioneers (8-15, 6-13 LSC).
St. Edward's shot only 29.7 percent (19 of 64) in the contest, including 26.1 percent (6 of 23) from beyond the arc. A trio of players scored in double figures, led by
DEIJAH BLANKS' 23 points.
HALEY BLANKINSHIP and
LEXI CUNNINGHAM added 10 points apiece.
The 'Toppers jumped out to a 19-11 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. However, Texas Woman's outscored SEU 21-9 in the second quarter, as the hosts took a 32-28 lead at the half.
The Pioneers pushed their advantage to 43-36 in the third period. St. Edward's responded with a 6-0 spurt, capped by Blankinship's jumper with 2:01 left in the quarter. TWU then scored the final five points to push its lead to 48-42 to close out the frame.
Texas Woman's used the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to increase its lead to 61-48. St. Edward's was able to pull within five in the final minute, but fell short of the comeback bid.
The Hilltoppers will remain on the road Saturday, traveling to Stephenville to face Tarleton State. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
