Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – Five Hilltoppers scored in double figures as St. Edward's women's basketball easily handled Texas A&M-Kingsville, 78-52, Saturday afternoon.
SEU started the game on a 12-0 run through the opening three minutes before going silent, allowing TAMUK to take the lead at the end of the first, 13-12.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Hilltoppers took control in the second quarter. SEU outscored the Javalinas 18-7 in the frame to lead by ten at the break, 30-20.
FAIREN SUTTON hit back-to-back three pointers to open the second half and set the tone for the Hilltoppers in the third quarter. SEU posted an 11-0 run in the third to extend their lead to 17 points heading into the fourth, 54-37.
That breathing room was more than enough for St. Edward's to close out the contest without being threatened.
St. Edward's shot 53.4 percent from the floor while holding TAMUK to just 33.3 percent.
SAMMIE DUFEK posted a career-high 19 points in the win while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Charlie Becker and Sutton had 12 points each while
JAZMINE JACKSON and
MARYAM WILCHER added ten a piece. D'ayvion Magazine added nine assists to lead the Hilltoppers.
SEU improves to 13-9 on the season and 9-8 in Lone Star Conference play. They return home to face UT Permian Basin on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
