LUBBOCK, Texas – St. Edward's softball closed their opening weekend tournament with three wins including a pair of run-rule wins to start the season at 4-1 overall.
GAME 1: SEU 7 – UCCS 2
St. Edward's started strong and posted three runs in the first inning to take control of the game. SEU added three more in the fourth before UC Colorado Springs was able to get on the board. UCCS posted two in the fifth but was as much of a comeback as they could manage as the Hilltoppers secured the win.
REAGAN CARTER earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and an impressive 12 strikeouts.
KATHRYN CONNELLY continued her outstanding weekend at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs.
GAME 2: SEU 12 – CSUP 3
Colorado State-Pueblo struck first with one run in the top of the first, but SEU quickly rebounded, pushing across two in the bottom half of the inning. After a scoreless second CSUP added two runs in the third to briefly lead, but SEU was able to even the count.
The Hilltoppers allowed one run in the fourth before unloading seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a commanding lead. Two more runs in the fifth solidified the run rule victory.
EMILY KLANIKA earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit while walking one in 1.2 innings of work. Genisa Marrero Carter led at the plate with a 3-4 outing.
GAME 3: SEU 14 – UNK 6
St. Edward's stayed true to form and wasted no time taking control of the game, posting four runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third to take a commanding lead. The Hilltoppers were never threatened throughout the game and secured the win.
Carter earned the win, allowing one run on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
JORDAN NEELY had a big game at the plate, going 3-5 with two RBI.
SEU goes to 4-1 on the season and return to action n Friday, Febraury 14, facing CSU Pueblo at 10 am in Edmond, Oklahoma.
