AUSTIN – NCAA President Mark Emmert has announced Thursday the cancellation of all remaining winter and spring championships for the 2019-20 season due to the rapidly developing COVID-19 virus. The Lone Star Conference also announced the suspension of regular-season competition for all sports through at least March 30. Any games previously scheduled during that time will be considered a no-contest and will not be made up.

The NCAA announcement impacts the St. Edward's University men's basketball team, which was scheduled to play in the South Central Regional this weekend in Canyon. The Hilltoppers will return to Austin following the cancellation of their postseason tournament.
St. Edward's has canceled practice and competition for all sports in their non-championship season, including men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball.
"The suspension of our athletics operations is unprecedented, but it is a proactive decision that we do not take lightly," St. Edward's Associate Vice President for Athletics Debbie Taylor said. "Our top priority is the well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and members of our community. Please know that this decision, which was made in collaboration with the Lone Star Conference and campus members, is in the best interest of the St. Edward's family. We will continue to support our student-athletes in any way possible during this unpredictable time."
