Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, Texas – A pair of late-game rallies were able to hand St. Edward's softball a pair of losses to #20 Lubbock Christian University Friday afternoon.
GAME 1: SEU 4 – LCU 5 (9 INNINGS)
Lubbock jumped ahead early with one run in the first but St. Edward's quickly took control to lead 2-1 in the second.
KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ's single up the middle drove home two runs in the fifth, putting SEU on top 4-1.
St. Edward's was able to hold Lubbock Christian without another run heading into the final inning, but LCU refused to buckle and posted three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, tying the game 4-4.
SEU was unable to get their offense going again in extra innings as the Chaps scored the game winner, scoring on a bunt play in the ninth inning.
GENISA MARRERO-CARTER went 3-5 with one run scored to lead SEU at the plate.
REAGAN CARTER made the start in the circle while
EMILY KLANIKA suffered the loss.
GAME 2: SEU 0 – LCU 6
Lubbock Christian rode the momentum from game one into game two. St. Edward's was able to hold the Chaps scoreless through the first four innings, but LCU exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to setup the win.
Marrero-Carter again led at the plate as the only Hilltopper to log multiple hits in the contest.
JULISA ORTEGA suffered the loss in the circle to fall to 3-1 on the year. St. Edward's drops to 12-8 overall, 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play. They remain on the road to take on another nationally-ranked opponent, facing #9 Angelo State for a double-header on Sunday beginning at 1 pm.
