FRISCO – St. Edward's men's basketball fell to West Texas A&M 81-65 Sunday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Tournament championship game.Â
After WT hit the first two baskets of the game, Â SEU embarked on a 17-0 run with
JAKE KRAFKA posting 11 points during the run to lead 17-5 with 13 minutes remaining in the first.
Suffocating defense throughout the first half held the Buffs to 25 points while SEU forced WT into nine turnovers with eight steals to lead by 13 at the break, 38-25.
Foul trouble early in the second half for St. Edward's allowed West Texas room to cut into the Hilltoppers' lead, eventually taking the advantage themselves 46-45 with just under 13 minutes to play.Â
It was a battle to the final buzzer as teams traded baskets. West Texas finally got a foothold as the clock ticked under two minutes. SEU wasn't able regain control and suffered the loss.
Krafka ended with 15 points to lead the Hilltoppers, shooting 5 of 8 from the floor.
RYAN GARZA chipped in 13 with
COREY SHERVILL contributing 11 points with seven boards.
DORIAN LOPEZ led on the glass with nine rebounds.Â
St. Edward's drops to 27-4 on the season. They are likely to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship with matchups to be announced later Sunday evening. The NCAA selection show is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. and will be streamed online.
