Box Score LAREDO, Texas – St. Edward's men's basketball used a 10-0 run late in the game to secure a win over Texas A&M International Thursday. With the win, SEU improves to 6-1 on the season.
It was clear TAMIU was ready to defend their home court as they quickly led by six points six minutes in. SEU settled in, however, and was able to take the lead after a
JAKE KRAFKA layup that was bookended by a pair of
RYAN GARZA threes, putting SEU on top 14-12 with 12 minutes left in the half.
The lead seesawed back and forth the rest of the frame, with five lead changes and five ties in the final seven minutes.
DANIEL VENZANT sent the Hilltoppers into the locker room with a one-point advantage, 31-30, after converting the and-one on a layup with seven seconds remaining.
The second half saw 13 ties and ten lead changes until SEU took control with the late run to secure the win. St. Edward's shot 48.1 percent from the floor despite going 0-7 from three-point range in the second half.
The Hilltoppers shot 41.8 percent from the floor and was led by
B.J. MAXWELL and Venzant who posted 17 points each.
LOGAN COOK led on the glass with 12 rebounds while
JAKE KRAFKA posted a team-high three steals.
SEU returns home to face Texas A&M International one more time, this time on Saturday at 3 pm.
