#13 Hilltoppers cruise to 89-60 win over TAMIU

AUSTIN – St. Edward's was happy to be back on the Hilltop, committing just five turnovers while forcing 21 in an 89-60 win over Texas A&M International to improve to 7-1 on the season and 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

 

TAMIU may have hit the first bucket of the game, but it was all SEU as the teams closed their two-game series. The Hilltoppers led by seven, 21-14, with 7:38 remaining in the first half before embarking on an 11-0 run. DANIEL VENZANT hit a pair of threes in the 1:30 stretch that proved to be the breathing room SEU needed, leading 32-14 with just under six minutes to play in the half.
 
The Hilltoppers led by 23 at the break, 46-23, and never allowed the DustDevils closer than 20 points the rest of the way.
 
St. Edward's shot 52.9 percent from the floor and 34.3 percent from three-point range. B.J. MAXWELL led with 21 points in just 24 minutes of action, adding a team-high four steals. JAKE KRAFKA added 14 points, going 5-9 from the floor and 2-4 from long range with seven boards. Venzant and KIJANA LOVE added 13 points each with Venzant racking up eight assists.
 
The Hilltoppers return to action on Thursday, opening a two-game series against UT Permian Basin. Game time is set for 5 pm.
