AUSTIN – St. Edward's outrebounded Texas A&M International 41-32 but was unable to convert those extra boards to points, falling 69-59 Saturday. 

It took nearly five minutes for the DustDevils to score their first points thanks to the Hilltopper defense, allowing SEU to jump out to a 7-0 lead. St. Edward's went quiet offensively as TAMIU forced turnovers. At the end of the first, SEU trailed 12-11.

A slow start to the second quarter for the Hilltoppers allowed Texas A&M International to build a slight advantage, going up by as many as nine, 26-17, with just over four minuets to play in the half. Back to back and-one plays by CHRISTINA MASON pulled St. Edward's within three, 31-28, by halftime.

SEU's offense remained strong in the third quarter but TAMIU matched the effort, sending the Hilltoppers into the final frame down seven, 52-45.

It was a fast and furious start to the fourth quarter as the DustDevils pushed their lead to 11, 58-47, with 7:25 remaining. A steal and quick layup by MORGAN GARY pulled SEU within seven, 63-56 as the clock ticked under a minute. TAMIU did just enough from the free throw line down the stretch to hand St. Edward's the loss.

The Hilltoppers shot 39 percent from the floor and just 8.3 percent from three point range in the loss. D'AVIYON MAGAZINE led with 13 points, going 6-12 from the floor with eight rebounds.

MCCALL HAMPTON came off the bench to add 10 points while JAZMINE JACKSON added nine points and a team high nine rebounds.

St. Edward's falls to 2-4 on the season and 2-4 in Lone Star Conference play. They remain at home to open a two-game series against UT Permian Basin on Thursday at 3 pm.
