TYLER, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball improved to 2-2 on the year and 2-2 in the Lone Star Conference with a big 64-37 win over UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon.
After a steady start by both teams, the Hilltoppers turned up the heat defensively in the second quarter. SEU held UT Tyler to just eight points and 4-17 shooting from the floor in the frame, mounting a 16-point lead by halftime, 35-19.
St. Edward's had all the momentum at the break and rode it right into the third quarter, pushing their lead to 24, 47-23, on
CHARLI BECKER's three with 5:19 remaining in the frame.
The Hilltoppers held on to a comfortable advantage the entirety of the fourth quarter and confidently closed out the game for the win.
St. Edward's shot 37.7 percent from the floor while holding the Patriots to just 23.2 percent. Becker led the way with 14 points in just 23 minutes of action, going 4-8 from the floor and 2-5 from three-point range. Ten Hilltoppers scored in the contest with six scoring seven or more points.
SEU forced 28 turnovers, scoring 25 points off those turnovers while committing 18. They also outrebounded the Patriots and was led by
JAZMINE JACKSON on the glass with seven boards.
The Hilltoppers remain on the road to face Texas A&M International on January 14 at 4 pm.
