LUBBOCK, Texas – St. Edward's women's soccer went on the road to Lubbock Christian and came home with a crucial 1-0 win over the Chaps Saturday afternoon.
KATIE GAY, assisted by
CAITLYN GONZALEZ, scored the game-winner in the 23
rd minute and the Hilltopper defense took care of the rest to close out the win.
SEU wasted no time going on the attack in the match, firing off four shots in the opening 20 minutes. A lofting corner kick from Gonzalez found Gay who buried the ball in the back of the net to put the Hilltoppers up 1-0.
LCU only managed one shot in the remainder of the half as the advantage remained the Hilltoppers' at the half.
St. Edward's continued to pressure the Chaps despite the lead and earned numerous corners in the second half. Play went back and forth throughout the frame but neither team was able to score as the game ended to hand SEU the win.
The Hilltoppers led 16-9 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks in the win. Gay and
REAGAN DYKES led with four shots each while
MADDI DAVIS and
SARAH PRESTON recorded two each.
ABBY CARLSON earned the shutout win with four saves in goal.
St. Edward's improves to 8-6-2 on the year and 6-4-1 in Lone Star Conference play. They return home to host their final home match of the year, taking on nationally-ranked Angelo State on Wednesday, November 3 at 4 pm.
