AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball was unable to complete the weekend sweep, falling 3-1 to West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon.
WT's high-powered offense kept the Hilltopper defense on their toes, hitting .254 for the match. St. Edward's was held to only .110 on the day with ten fewer digs.
The Buffs were quick to win the first set, holding SEU to just 12 points to win 25-12. St. Edward's was able to regroup and battle back to even the match with a set two win. The set was tight throughout, but a three point run late put St. Edward's on top 18-14 and they never lost the lead again to close out the set 25-23.
Following the break, it was all WT as they won the third set 25-17 and fourth set 25-15.
KAITLYN KRAFKA led offensively with 11 kills while
CAROLINE SWAN posted ten with a .241 attack percentage.
NATALIA WALLS had 25 assists off the bench while
SARAH KONOVODOFF had 18 digs. Walls and
HALLE SANDERS added 12 digs each with
JILLIENNE CONNELL adding a team-high three blocks.
St. Edward's falls to 9-6 on the year and 4-4 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on Thursday, hosting St. Mary's for the Battle of the Saints. First serve is set for 6 pm.
