AUSTIN – After last night's emotional match, St. Edward's volleyball gave #6 Angelo State all they could handle but ultimately fell 3-1 to end the regular season.
EMILY TRAN recorded her 2000
th career assist early in the match, just the 8
th Hilltopper to reach that mark.
The Hilltoppers were not fazed as the match got underway, scoring the first three points in the set and not trailing until ASU led 12-11. A 7-2 run by the Rams gave them just enough breathing room to eke out the win 25-23.
Angelo State led 9-5 in set two before the Hilltoppers got hot to tie the set 10-10. Another 6-1 run late in the set put SEU up 21-18, allowing St. Edward's to close out the set with a 25-22 win.
The third set was tight until ASU pulled away, outscoring SEU 14-4 down the stretch to win 25-15, and it was all Rams in the fourth and final set as they won 25-9.
St. Edward's hit .117 for the match while ASU posted a .234 attack percentage.
CAROLINE SWAN led with 12 kills while
KAITLYN KRAFKA added 11.
EMILY TRAN ended with 40 assists on her milestone achieving night.
Defensively,
SARAH KONOVODOFF had 26 digs while Tran added 13 and Krafka 12.
JILLIENNE CONNELL led with three block assists.
The Hilltoppers end the regular season with a 13-11 overall mark, 8-9 in Lone Star Conference play. They earn a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and will await their matchup when brackets are announced later today.
