AUSTIN – St. Edward's men's basketball shot over 50 percent from the field and just under 50 percent from three-point range in a 92-69 win over St. Francis Sunday afternoon.
The scoring started early for SEU, first at the hands of
LUKE PLUYMEN who was electric early. Pluymen drained three from deep to put the Hilltoppers up 12-6 in the first five minutes. St. Edward's got their first double-digit lead on a three from deep by
MARCUS HILL with 12 minutes to go in the half.
SEU led by as many as 16 in the frame, thanks in large part to shooting 52.9 percent from long range, but the Saints hung around and were able to pull within ten points, 41-31 by the halftime break.
DANIEL VENZANT had 14 points in the first half with Hill chipping in 12.
A measured start to the second half by the Hilltoppers led to an explosion of scoring, allowing St. Edward's to go up by 20 points, 61-41, with 12:29 to play. USF was held to just 12 points in the first ten minutes of the second half and were never allowed back in the game as the SEU squad continued their offensive onslaught.
The Hilltoppers led by as many as 26 points before closing out the 90-69 win. They shot 52.4 percent from the floor and 48.6 percent from three-point range in the win.
DANIEL VENZANT led with 19 points in just 19 minutes of action while Hill came off the bench to score 15 points on 4-7 shooting from three point range. Pluymen added 12 points with
UCHE DIBIAMAKA and
BENNETT MOHN posting 11 points each.
St. Edward's improves to 3-1 on the year and they hit the road following Thanksgiving break, heading to Lakeland, Florida to take on St. Leo on November 26 at 4:30 pm.
