th career block to set a new mark for St. Edward's women's basketball for blocks in a career. Casey Koenig (1997-2001) was the previous record holder with 144 blocks in her career.
The Hilltoppers fell 72-59 in the contest despite a strong run in the fourth quarter that pulled them within four points.
SEU was slow to start and was held to just two points in the first five minutes, but their defense was able to keep them in the game. ASU led 13-2 with 5:29 to go in the quarter, but St. Edward's held them to just one point over the next four and a half minutes to hang close. At the end of the first, the Hilltoppers trailed by six, 19-13.
A strong start to the second quarter saw the Hilltoppers pull within one point on two different occasions. The Rams closed the half on a 16-6 run to send SEU into the locker room down 12, 40-28.
Angelo State was able to maintain a double-digit advantage throughout the third quarter as the Hilltoppers were unable to put together a run to close the gap.
A 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter allowed the Hilltoppers within ten, 55-45, prompting a timeout by the Rams. The timeout wasn't enough to stop St. Edward's as
MCCALL HAMPTON hit a layup to pull within single digits, 57-48, for the first time in the half.
By the media timeout, SEU was within four, 59-55. ASU did exactly what they needed to in the final minutes, holding the Hilltoppers at arm's length until the final buzzer.
St. Edward's shot 35.2 from the field and were held to just 12.5 percent from three-point range.
TAYLOR COCKERILL led with 14 points while
HALEY BLANKINSHIP, Dufek, and Hampton added ten each. Dufek ended with just the one record-breaking block on the afternoon to go along with five rebounds. Hampton led on the boards with six.
The Hilltoppers fall to 6-3 on the season while ASU improves to 1-8 on the season. St. Edward's returns home to host Texas A&M International on Thursday, December 16 at 5:30 pm.
