AUSTIN – St. Edward's women's basketball opened the game on a 15-0 run and were relentless defensively on their way to a 94-48 win over Schreiner Thursday.
It took over five minutes for the Mountaineers to score their first field goal as the Hilltoppers went up by 18, 20-2.
Schreiner started the second quarter well and pulled within 12 points, 33-21, but St. Edward's quickly responded to extend their lead to 25, 51-26, by halftime.
By six minutes into the third quarter, SEU's lead had ballooned to 33 points, 70-37, and closed in on the 40-point mark by the end of the frame.
With 4:48 the Hilltopper's lead eclipsed the 40-point mark and St. Edward's powered on to the final buzzer.
BELLA MUSCOREIL led the offense with 22 points, going 7-12 from the floor and 8-8 from the free throw line.
TAYLOR COCKERILL added 16 points and
MORGAN GARY 15 to go with a team-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
SAMMIE DUFEK continued her dominance on the defensive end with six blocks. It pulls her within five of setting a new career block record at St. Edward's.
The Hilltoppers improve to 4-2 on the year and they remain at home to face Southwestern on Saturday at 1 pm.
