Hilltoppers break century mark in big win over Arlington Baptist

AUSTIN - For the first time this season, the St. Edward's men's basketball team eclipsed 100 points, downing Arlington Baptist 104-65 Saturday afternoon.

St. Edward's exploded out the gate and were virtually unstoppable offensively with threes raining down in the Recreation and Athletics Center. The Hilltoppers shot a dominating 62.9 percent from the floor and 55 percent from three point range in the half to lead by 26 at halftime, 55-29.

Even with a large lead in hand, SEU never took their foot off the gas and quickly went up by 32 on a three by MASON HIX just over four minutes into the second half. No matter who was on the floor, the Hilltopper offense churned on and a three from MARCUS HILL put St. Edward's up four, 89-49, with six minutes to go.

The lead never dipped below 35 points in the final five minutes as SEU closed out the win.

The Hilltoppers were outstanding in all areas, shooting 58.6 percent from the floor, 45.9 percent from three-point range, and out-rebounded ABU 37-25. BENNETT MOHN led the way with a team-high 21 points and added six assists. Hix added 14 points, UCHE DIBIAMAKA 12, DANIEL VENZANT 11 and JAYLEN GORDON 10. GAVINO RAMOS posted six assists in the win while Dibiamaka and Venzant had four steals each. LOGAN COOK led on the glass with eight rebounds.

St. Edward's improves to 5-2 on the season while Arlington Baptist falls to 2-6. SEU returns to the road to take on UT Permian Basin in a non-conference matchup on December 9 at 7:30 pm.
