AUSTIN – After a prolonged offseason the St. Edward's women's soccer team finally took the pitch for the start of the 2021 spring season. A goal seconds before the halftime horn sounded was all Angelo State needed to defeat SEU, 1-0.
SEU was aggressive at the start, firing off shots early that tested the Ram defense. It may have taken a while for ASU to get going, but once they did their pressure was constant. The Rams saw it pay off just 15 seconds before the half, scoring in transition to go up 1-0.
The Hilltoppers had only a few good looks at goal as the Ram defense packed the box. SEU got just three shots off in the frame with only one on goal, leading to the loss.
SARAH AVANT,
ASHLEY WILSON and
SARAH PRESTON had one shot on goal each in the loss while
MEGHAN DUNNING recorded five saves.
St. Edward's starts the season at 0-1 overall and have a quick turnaround as they hit the road to face Texas A&M International on Sunday at 5 pm in Laredo for last week's makeup game.
