LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International scored two second half goals to defeat St. Edward's 2-1 Sunday afternoon in the Hilltoppers rescheduled opener.
SEU dominated the first half, rocketing off 10 shots while holding TAMIU to just two, but were not able to put one in the back of the net as the match remained gridlocked at 0-0.
The Hilltoppers came out strong with four shots in the opening nine minutes, but it was the Dust Devils that seized control. TAMIU scored in the 54
th minute to go up 1-0.
Just five minutes later, St. Edward's got the equalizer as
WREN BLANCHETTE struck from the top of the box, assisted by
SARAH PRESTON, evening the score 1-1 in the 59
th minute.
SEU seemed to have all the momentum on their side, but Texas A&M International was able to score the eventual game winner in the 74
th minute. Despite multiple opportunities down the stretch, TAMIU held the Hilltoppers scoreless to secure the win.
St. Edward's outshot TAMIU 22-8 in the loss.
BELLA CAMARATA took two shots, both on frame, while Preston had five shots with two on frame to accompany her assist.
SEU falls to 0-2 on the year and they return to action on Wednesday, hosting Texas A&M International for a rematch beginning at 4 pm.
