GEORGETOWN, Texas – St. Edward's easily handled Southwestern in their second doubleheader of the season, defeating the Pirates 9-1 and 12-1 Saturday.
GAME 1: SEU 9 – SU 1
The Hilltoppers used a steady stream of runs to take game one, scoring two in the first and three in the second. The only run starting pitcher
MCKENNA LEAMON and the SEU defense allowed was in the first inning.
St. Edward's added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to close out the win.
GENISA MARRERO-CARTER led at the plate, going 3-5 with one RBI and two runs.
EMILY KLANIKA was 2-3 with three runs while four other Hilltoppers posted two hits. Leamon earned the win in the circle, scattering three hits with seven strikeouts.
GAME 2: SEU 12 – SU 1
St. Edward's rode the momentum right into game two, steadily building on their lead while holding SU off the basepaths.
CADIE BELLE CURRIE earned the complete game win with five innings of work, giving up just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Four Hilltoppers posted three hits in game two with
KAYLEE MCQUILLAN led the way going 3-3 with four RBI and two runs.
SEU improves to 3-1 on the season with the wins. They open Lone Star Conference play on Friday, facing Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5 pm in Kingsville on Friday.
