Hilltoppers earn split against #8 Oklahoma Christian

AUSTIN - St. Edward's was able to score seven runs with two outs in game one before dropping game two in a big split against #8 Oklahoma Christian.

GAME 1: SEU 8 - OC 7

SEU wasted no time defending their home turf. VALERIE BRANT hit a rocket to left field to drive home GENISA MARRERO-CARTER from second to open the scoring. JORDAN NEELY kept the two-out rally going with a double to left center, bringing home a pair of runs to lead 3-0.

In a reversal of fortunes, it was the Eagles that got hot in the second inning, scoring all seven runs with two outs on the board.

The Hilltoppers found the magic again in the fifth, unloading for four runs with two outs again, tying the game 7-7. After the St. Edward's defense got out of a jam in the sixth, they got back to work at the plate. MORGAN ARCIA drove in what ended up being the game-winning RBI with a single up the middle to score ALEXIS MASSIE. Caddie Belle Currie and the Hilltopper defense did the rest to secure the win.

Marrero-Carter was perfect from the plate, going 4-4 with one RBI. Caddie Belle Currie entered in relief in the circle and was nearly untouchable. In 5.1 innings of work she allowed just one hit, no walks and six strikeouts, earning her second win of the season.

GAME 2: SEU 1 – OC 3

The Hilltoppers picked up where they left off, scoring one run on Kaitlyn McQuillan's single to right field.

A scoreless second gave way to a pair of Eagle runs in the third to take the lead 2-1. OC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and held SEU scoreless after the opening frame.

Marrero-Carter led at the plate again, going 2-3 with one run scored. MCKENNA LEAMON had a strong outing despite suffering the loss in the circle. She allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and five walks.

St. Edward's moves to 7-7 on the year and 4-6 in the Lone Star Conference. They return to action on Sunday, facing Cameron for a doubleheader starting at noon.
