AUSTIN – St. Edward's got a huge defensive effort in game two after dropping the first game of the doubleheader, splitting with Cameron Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1: SEU 0 – CU 3
Cameron got baserunners on early and was the first on the scoreboard, pushing two across in the second and one in the fourth.
The Hilltoppers were unable to get much going offensively until the bottom of seventh when
VALERIE BRANT hit a one out double over the left fielder's head. SEU was unable to bring her home, however, dropping game one 3-0.
MORGAN ARCIA led at the plate, going 2-2.
MCKENNA LEAMON suffered the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on two hits with seven walks and three strikeouts.
GAME 2: SEU 4 – CU 0
St. Edward's opened the scoring in the second inning in game two.
EMILY KLANIKA needed to see just one pitch, sending a lofting ball into left center for a leadoff double. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Klanika came home on
ALEXIS MASSIE's liner to third.
JORDAN NEELY drove home two more with a double of her own to left center and
GENISA MARRERO-CARTER followed with a single up the middle to score one more. When all was said and done, SEU held a 4-0 advantage through two.
Cameron threatened in the fifth, posting runners on second and third with no outs.
CADIE BELLE CURRIE got three straight groundouts with heads-up plays from
KAYLEE MCQUILLAN at third to hold the Aggies off the board.
Currie and the SEU defense handled business the rest of the way, closing out the win with confidence. Currie secured the win in the circle, allowing just three hits in the shutout with two walks and six strikeouts.
Massie led at the plate, going 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
The Hilltoppers move to 8-8 on the year and 5-7 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on March 26, returning to the road to face West Texas.
