SAN ANTONIO – St. Edward's volleyball used runs in each set on their way to a 3-0 win over St. Mary's Tuesday evening in Lone Star Conference play.
 
The Rattlers jumped out to an early lead in the first set but SEU was quick to respond, using a 9-1 run to lead 22-14. StMU earned three straight points before the Hilltoppers secured the match, winning 25-17.
 
Set two was tight until SEU got on a roll again, closing the set with six unanswered points to win 25-20.
 
The Hilltoppers rode the momentum into the third set, opening the frame on a 6-0 run. The Rattlers eventually evened the score, 14-14, but SEU took control when it mattered to win 25-23.
 
MELISSA MCNEIL led St. Edward's offensively with 15 kills on 32 attempts with just one error, posting a .438 attack percentage. KAITLYN KRAFKA added 10 kills while KATARINA MENDEZ, AJANI HODGES and MAYA SMALLS contributed five each. Nicole Grant had 16 digs to lead the Hilltoppers defensively while EMILY TRAN added 13 digs and a team high 18 assists.
 
St. Edward's improves to 4-5 on the season and remain in San Antonio to face St. Mary's on Wednesday at 6 pm.
