CANYON, Texas – St. Edward's was unable to replicate their record-setting performance in Saturday afternoon's LSC Championship matchup against West Texas A&M, falling 108-89.
SEU led early in the game, but West Texas took full advantage of their homecourt and eventually took a slight lead.
DANIEL VENZANT's three-pointer with just under nine minutes to play until halftime handed the lead back to the Hilltoppers, 30-29, but the Buffs closed the frame on a 10-2 run to send SEU into the locker room down seven, 53-46.
WT was hot to start the second half and pushed their lead to 15, 68-52 just four minutes in.
B.J. MAXWELL's jumper with 12:11 remaining to cut the deficit to eight, 75-67, but that was the last time St. Edward's was within single digits as West Texas closed out the win.
Venzant led with 25 points, going 7-15 from the field and 3-7 from three-point range with nine assists. Maxwell added 19,
JAKE KRAFKA 14 while
LOGAN COOK and
RYAN GARZA posted 11 points each.
SEU falls to 12-8 on the year and 10-7 in Lone Star Conference play. They will await the NCAA Selection Show to see if they earned an at large bid. The selection show is scheduled for Sunday evening at 9:30 pm CT.
