Box Score AUSTIN - St. Edward's softball used tough defense and strong pitching to earn a win over #23 Angelo State in game two of the doubleheader Saturday.
GAME 1: SEU 5 - ASU 10
The deficit from the first day was too much for the Hilltoppers to overcome as they finished the final inning and a half.
LAUREN JARESH suffered the loss in the circle while
MORGAN ARCIA led offensively, going 2-3.
GAME 2: SEU - ASU
The Hilltoppers and starting pitcher
CADIE BELLE CURRIE allowed just one hit through the first three innings while posting hits themselves. In the bottom of the third, SEU loaded the bases with one out and
LAUREN WERNING pushed the first two runs of the game across the plate with a 2 RBI single to right center. A passed ball allowed
VALERIE BRANT to score to put St. Edward's up 3-0 through three.
Currie remained tough all the way into the final frame when ASU finally got on the board with a wind-assisted solo homerun to center by Fernandez. That is all SEU would allow, however, as they closed out the win with back to back grounders to second base.
Currie earned the complete game win, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Werning led at the plate with the game-winning 2 RBI single.
St. Edward's moves to 13-15 on the year and 9-13 in Lone Star Conference play following the split. They return to action on Sunday, hosting Lubbock Christian at noon for senior day.
