Box Score DENTON, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball fell 3-1 to Texas Woman's University to open Lone Star Conference action Friday evening.
Set one was tight early before SEU took a four-point lead, 13-9, and seemed to be headed in the right direction to take the set. TWU battled back and closed the set on a 13-3 run including an 8-0 run at the end to win 25-19.
The Pioneers controlled the second set, winning 25-15, with consistent play. St. Edward's was able to win the third set, earning the final three points with kills from
CAROLINE SWAN and
HALLE SANDERS, winning 30-28.
Texas Woman's closed the fourth set on a 4-0 run once again and were able to close out the match, winning 25-21.
SEU was held to .152 attack percentage with
LOURDES GOMEZ leading the way with 12 kills. Sanders added 11 and
MAYA SMALLS 10.
EMILY TRAN had a team high 39 assists while Swan led defensively with 17 digs. Smalls added five blocks in the loss.
The Hilltoppers fall to 5-3 on the year and open the LSC schedule at 0-1. They return to action on Saturday, taking on DBU at 1 pm.
