AUSTIN – The St. Edward's volleyball team returned to the Hilltop for the first time this season and were able to come away with a win, defeating Texas A&M-Commerce 3-1 Friday evening.
The Hilltoppers shot out of the gate, exploding offensively to lead 20-11 and seemed to have the win in their hands. The Lions had other plans, however, as they closed the set on an 18-7 run to win the extended set 29-27.
St. Edward's returned to form in set two, steadily building on their early lead to win the set 25-22 and easily took care of business in the third set 25-19.
Things seemed to going just as SEU wanted in the final set as they led 24-19, but Commerce would not give in as they evened the score 24-24.
CAROLINE SWAN's kill, tied the game 25-25 and Swan served two straight points to close out the set 27-25 and win 3-1.
LOURDES GOMEZ led the attack with 19 kills as the Hilltoppers hit .220 on the evening. Swan added 17 kills with
EMILY TRAN picking up 44 assists.
JILLIENNE CONNELL had a team-high six blocks with
HALLE SANDERS adding four.
The Hilltoppers improve to 7-3 on the year and return to action on Saturday, facing #23 UT Tyler at 1 pm.
