Fiery Hilltopper offense just off the mark as women’s soccer ties with MSU in LSC opener

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Edward's nearly doubled Midwestern State in shots but the match ended in a 1-1 tie in the Lone Star Conference season opener Saturday.

It took just over eight minutes for SEU to gain control of the contest as KATIE GAY netted a goal in the ninth minute on just the second shot for the Hilltoppers.

Not to be outdone, MSU matched the effort just five minutes later on their next look at goal, tying the match 1-1.

St. Edward's fired off shot after shot, searching for the go ahead once again, but MSU's goalkeeper Taylor Camp seemed to have the answer to keep the match deadlocked at 1-1 to force overtime.

Both teams had opportunities in the overtime frames, but neither team was able to net the game winner.

SEU led 15-8 in shots with ten on frame while posting just two corner kicks. Gay led the charge offensively with five shots, four on frame, including the lone Hilltopper goal of the match. CAITLYN GONZALEZ came off the bench to post two shots, both on frame, in 53 minutes of action.

ABBY CARLSON posted six saves in goal in the match.

St. Edward's moves to 2-2-2 on the year and 0-0-1 in the Lone Star Conference. They return to action on September 29 to host St. Mary's in the Battle of the Saints at 4 pm at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
