Volleyball drops first match of long road trip to UTPB

Box Score ODESSA, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball opened their longest road trip of the season Thursday, facing familiar foe in UT Permian Basin. After winning the first set, the Falcons were able to win the final three sets to hand the Hilltoppers a 3-1 loss.
 
St. Edward's started strong in the match and built up an early lead behind the arms of LAUREN SCOTT and KAITLYN KRAFKA. The lead proved to be enough as SEU was able to fend off the Falcon's to win set one 25-23.
 
UTPB jumped out to an early lead in set two before St. Edward's clawed their way back to even the count. Back to back errors by the Hilltoppers were enough to hand the extended set to win to the Falcons, 27-25.
 
With the momentum in their court, UT Permain Basin was able to close out the set with back-to-back 25-21 set three and four wins.
 
St. Edward's held the Falcons to .195 attack percentage but were only able to hit .162 in the match. KAITLYN KRAFKA had a strong outing in her return to the court, hitting .317 with a team-high 15 kills and just two errors. MAYA SMALLS added nine kills with three blocks. JILLIENNE CONNELL led defensively with four block assists while NIKKI GRANT posted 26 digs to lead on the back line.
 
SEU falls to 7-5 on the season, 2-3 in Lone Star Conference play. They remain on the road and head West, facing Western New Mexico on Saturday at 1 pm.
