COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Despite dominating every offensive category, outshooting and posting more corner kick opportunities in the match, the St. Edward's women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Adams State Saturday.
A quick turnaround from Friday's contest led to a slow start for SEU, but they quickly got rolling with back to back corner kicks 15 minutes in.
SARAH AVANT got the first good look at goal in the 21
st minute, but her shot sailed just high to keep the game scoreless.
The deadlock didn't last long, however, as Adams State scored just 40 seconds later to break the 0-0 tie.
CAITLYN GONZALEZ had the equalizer in the 29
th minute with a low driving shot, scoring unassisted, to tie the match 1-1.
With just over five minutes to play until the break, ASU netted what proved to be the game winner.
Adams State packed the box with the lead in hand and was able to keep SEU off the board the rest of the way to hand the Hilltoppers the loss.
SEU led 11-4 in shots and 9-4 in corners in the match.
KATIE GAY led the attack with five shots, two on frame.
St. Edward's falls to 0-2 on the season. They return to action on September 9 for their home opener, hosting MSU Denver at 4 pm.
