Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Staunch defense gives Hilltoppers a scoreless tie in double overtime in home opener

AUSTIN – St. Edward's women's soccer opened their home schedule on Thursday in a non-conference matchup against Metro State, ending in a scoreless tie in double overtime.

MSU Denver was strong early and were able to get some good looks at goal, but SARAH PRESTON had the best look of the half as it wound to a close but had her shot sail just wide of frame.

The Hilltoppers regrouped and were able to turn up the heat and were in the attacking third of the field for much of the half. SEU had many opportunities, but the Roadrunners always seemed to get just enough of a touch on the ball to keep the ball out of the net.

The blistering Central Texas heat began to take its toll on both teams in the extra frames as play bounced back and forth with neither team able to secure the game winner.

ABBY CARLSON was outstanding in her first start in goal, posting seven saves while facing 13 shots to hold the Roadrunners scoreless. KATIE GAY took two shots, one on frame, to lead the Hilltopper attack.

St. Edward's moves to 0-2-1 on the season while MSU Denver goes to 1-0-2 on the year. The Hilltoppers return to action on Friday, September 17 as they head to California to face Cal State San Bernardino at 5 p.m. CT.
