Considerable growth highlights mid-year report for esports

AUSTIN - The first half of the year is in the books for the St. Edward's esports program and Head Coach Sterling Henderson is guided the Hilltoppers to considerable growth thus far in the 2021-22 academic year. SEU has expanded with varsity rosters not only in League of Legends and Fortnite, but also Call of Duty, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Rocket League.

CALL OF DUTY
Both SEU White and SEU Blue saw multiple success in the Fall semester that is usually considered Call of Duty's off-season in the collegiate world. SEU Blue took home a tournament win in the Stay Plugged In Arlington Open. SEU Blue was also able to secure a top 3 finish in the Zaxby's and Florida Mutineers Invitational as well as the College CoD Vanguard Launch Open. They also secured 2nd place finishes in the eFuse College CoD Summer Open and the ICC CoD Vanguard Kickoff.

SEU White spent the Fall semester competing in the NACE Cold War season where they finished with an undefeated regular season and first in the coaches poll power rankings headed into playoffs. Although the playoffs saw some unfortunate circumstances arise they were still able to secure a top 8 finish. SEU White was also able to secure a 4th place finish at the ICC CoD Vanguard Kickoff.

With updated rules to the Spring College Call of Duty League, SEU White and SEU Blue will join forces to form one roster for the CCL main league. The roster will consist of Mauricio 'Thresh' Pallares, David 'Eons' Sauseda, Jason 'Reality' Beatty, and Johnny 'Vanity' Albano.

ROCKET LEAGUE
SEU Rocket League saw a lot of ups and downs in their first semester competing. After being only one game away from qualifying for the CRL as one of the best 24 teams in the country, they unfortunately fell short to rival University of Texas. The team was still able to move on and finish 6th in the College Carball Association in only their first semester competing. SEU Rocket League will now look forward and prepare to try once more at qualifying for the CRL.

SEU Rocket League also spent the Fall semester competing in NACE. They finished their regular season with only one loss, although never managed to consistently hold their spot amongst the power rankings despite appearing on it two separate times. They were able to make a commendable playoff run where they continued their pattern of pushing deep into the winner's bracket before losing steam in the lower bracket. They secured a top-12 NACE finish in their first semester.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
SEU League saw their own successes in the Fall semester. They finished their group play during the first Fall CLoL season with a winning record, and will look to carry that momentum into the official CLoL season this Spring semester.

RAINBOW SIX
Rainbow Six will see their first full season of play in the Spring semester. They've shown serious improvement through the Fall as they spent their first semester as a team preparing for Spring.
