AUSTIN - Despite shooting over 50 percent on the night from the field, St. Edward's men's basketball suffered the loss at home to an even hotter St. Mary's squad who shot 51.7 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from three-point range.
St. Edward's shot out of the gate at the start of the game, quickly mounting an eight point lead less than four minutes in. Not to be outdone, the Rattlers rumbled back and eventually took the lead 23-21 with just under ten minutes to play.
It was a dogfight the rest of the way with the Hilltoppers taking a slight two point advantage into the break, 43-41.
St. Mary's quickly took the lead in the second half as St. Edward's struggled to get going again. SEU found themselves down by seven, 64-57, with just under ten minutes remaining, but were unable to get over the five point hump as the Rattlers were able to close out the win.
The Hilltoppers were led by
UCHE DIBIAMAKA who posted 22 points on 7-15 shooting, 3-6 from three-point range.
DANIEL VENZANT added 19,
MASON HIX 16 and
LOGAN COOK 10.
SEU outrebounded the Rattlers 21-19 with Hix leading the way with nine boards.
St. Edward's falls to 9-9 on the year and 3-5 in Lone Star Conference action. They remain at home to host Western New Mexico on Thursday for a 7:30 pm tipoff.
