Cockerill eclipses 1500 career points against Midwestern State

Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Edward's junior guard TAYLOR COCKERILL surpassed 1500 career points on Thursday evening at Midwestern State. The Hilltoppers lost the contest 72-58.
 
Cockerill, a transfer from Concordia (NE), came to the Hilltop with 1374 career points and had 121 points at SEU to date. After her 13 points on Thursday she blew past the 1500-point milestone.
 
The Hilltoppers trailed by 12 at the end of the first quarter, 18-6, but SEU started the second quarter strong to pull within three, 21-18, on Cockerill's layup with 5:46 to go. By halftime, MSU had pushed their lead back to nine, 34-25.
 
St. Edward's put together another run to close the third quarter and were within five points, 51-46, heading into the final frame.
 
In the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, the Mustangs were able to extend their lead back to 12 and never allowed SEU back in the game.
 
The Hilltoppers shot 37.7 percent from the floor and 21.4 percent from three point range in the loss. MORGAN GARY led the way with 18 points and added a team-high 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. Cockerill added 13 and was the only other Hilltopper in double digits.
 
St. Edward's falls to 8-5 on the year and 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play. The remain on the road to face Texas Woman's on Saturday at 2 pm.
