DALLAS, Texas – Despite five Hilltoppers scoring in double figures, St. Edward's fell 77-73 Saturday afternoon at DBU.
SEU was able to build a 12-point lead through the opening 12 minutes of the frame by holding the Patriots to just nine points, leading 21-9. DBU stepped up the to the challenge and were able to tie the game once again just before halftime, 31-31, but
DANIEL VENZANT's jumper sent the Hilltoppers into the locker room with a two-point lead, 33-31.
The lead seesawed back and forth until SEU led by six on a three by
BENNETT MOHN with just under ten minutes to play, 51-45. DBU rallied back and took the lead briefly, 53-51, with 7:48 to go, but SEU regained control and held onto it until under two minutes to play.
UCHE DIBIAMAKA's jumper with 2:22 to go was one of the last field goals by the Hilltoppers as the Patriots were able to secure the win.
Mohn and Venzant led with 16 points each with Mohn going an impressive 5-8 from three-point range. Dibiamaka and
MASON HIX added 11 points each with
LOGAN COOK adding in ten.
SEU trailed 33-26 on the glass and allowed 22 points from the free throw line in the loss.
St. Edward's falls to 8-7 on the year and 1-3 in Lone Star Conference play. They return home to face West Texas A&M on Thursday, January 13 at 7:30 pm.
