SAN ANGELO, Texas – St. Edward's women's soccer surrendered a pair of goals in a 2-1 loss to the Angelo State Rambelles in the Hilltoppers' penultimate game of the regular season.
The Hilltoppers surrendered a goal to Angelo State's Reagan Urbany at the 13:40 mark. The Rambelles played a long ball over the top of the defense, nearly two-thirds the length of the field. St. Edward's made one touch to attempt to clear the ball, but it was immediately played back to Valerie Solis.
Solis made a long run and fired off a shot stopped by a diving
ABBY CARLSON in the net, but the ball ricocheted to the foot of Urbany, who scored the opportunistic goal.
St. Edward's generated three shots in the first half, including two on goal, but were turned away to trail 1-0 at the half.
Angelo State scored an insurance goal off a Solis penalty kick on a foul drawn off a slide tackle in front of the net.
CAITLYN GONZALEZ put the Hilltoppers on the board with a long run through the middle of the defense, freezing the backline with a hesitation move and placing the ball over the reach of the Angelo State keeper, who left the net to try and prevent the shot.
The Hilltoppers were only able to get one more shot the rest of the way, getting an attempt from Gonzalez up top saved by Kira Miller.
St. Edward's drops to 8-5-4 with the loss. The Hilltoppers will close out the regular season at home against Texas Woman's University on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
