DENVER, Colorado - On Saturday, the St. Edward's softball team defeated Regis University in both games of a doubleheader 10-2 and 6-2.
Game One: SEU 10, RU 2
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, the Hilltoppers put up 10 unanswered runs to take game one of their doubleheader against the Rangers.
After a scoreless second, Kathryn Connelley tied the game in the top of the third after smacking a two-run homer over the left field wall.
In the fourth, the Hilltoppers put up two more runs on a Megan Morris RBI double and a passed ball.
SEU put up two more runs on an RBI triple by Megan Morris, and a Jordan Neely sacrifice fly in the fifth.
The Hilltoppers poured it on in the seventh and drove home four runs to stretch their lead to 10-2. A Jordan Neely RBI double, an error, and an RBI single by Kaylee McQuillian drove home the game's final runs.
McKenna Leamon pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out 14 batters.
Game Two: SEU 6, RU 2
After two scoreless innings to start game two, the Hilltoppers struck first in the third on an RBI single by ALEXIS MASSIE to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth, the Hilltoppers put up the bulk of their runs, breaking a 1-1 tie. Genisa Marrero-Carter got things started with an RBI single up the middle. Kathryn Connelly followed Marrero-Carter's single with an RBI single of her own. Megan Morris then singled home two runs, and a throwing error allowed SEU to take a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Renna Toomey earned the win as she pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs on four hits.
