SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The St. Edward's women's basketball team defeated St. Mary's 73-68 in their regular-season finale.
SEU came out hot on both ends of the court, putting up 26 points in the first quarter while holding St. Mary's to nine points. The Hilltoppers shot over 47 percent from the field and drained four threes in the quarter.
The Hilltoppers' second-quarter struggles from the field allowed the Rattlers to sneak back into the game. Still, the Hilltoppers held a 32- 28 lead entering halftime.
The Hilltoppers found their stride coming out of halftime as they shot over 41 percent from the field in the third quarter. SEU outscored St. Mary's 19-13 in the third quarter to extend their lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Hilltoppers scored 22 points as they shot over 46 percent from the field to put away the Rattlers for good.
The Hilltoppers were led by Taylor Cockerill, who put up 19 points and drained four threes. McCall Hampton added 11 points, and Morgan Gary recorded a double-double as she scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The win brings the Hilltoppers regular-season record to 12-16 and 5-12 in Lone Star Conference play.
