WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The St. Edward's softball team was swept in their two-game series against Midwestern State, losing game one 8-5 and game two 2-1.

Game One: MSU 8, SEU 5

In the bottom of the first, the Mustangs scored the first run of the game off of an RBI single to give them the slight edge.

However, the Hilltoppers would battle back and put up two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Jordan Neely scored the Hilltoppers first run due to an error, and Kaylee McQuillan drove in their second run on an RBI single up the middle.Â

In the third, MSU would tie the game at 2-2, following an RBI single up the middle. In the fourth, MSU put up five runs to separate themselves from the Hilltoppers. A wild pitch and a grand slam allowed the Mustangs to take a commanding 7-2 lead.

After a scoreless fifth, the Hilltoppers scored three runs in the top of the sixth to pull within two runs. Maddy Larson drove in the inning's first run on an RBI triple down the right-field line. Lauren Hoyt then drove in Larson on an RBI double to right-center field, and finally, Kaylee McQuillan drove in her second run of the day on an RBI single up the middle bringing the score to 7-5.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Mustangs would drive in the game's final run on a solo home run to bring the final score to 8-5.

McKenna Leamon pitched three innings giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out five batters in the loss.Â

Game Two: MSU 2, SEU 1

Game two was very different from game one as both starting pitchers dominated throughout the game, forcing the game into extra innings.Â

After two scoreless innings to start off the game, the Hilltoppers broke the tie giving them a slim 1-0 lead. Maddy Larson drove in the Hilltoppers only run of the game on an RBI double to right-center field. Later in the inning, the Mustangs would tie the game up at 1-1 on an RBI single.Â

The game would remain scoreless the rest of the way until extra innings. The Mustangs would walk it off on an RBI single to left field in extra innings, bringing the final score to 2-1.

McKenna Leamon pitched a solid game pitching seven innings plus giving up two runs on seven hits while tossing seven strikeouts in the loss.

The Hilltoppers are back home Wednesday as they take on Southwestern in a double-header. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon.Â
