Big first innings help Eagles beat Hilltoppers

March 18, 2022

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - On Friday, the St. Edward's softball team was swept in their two-game series against Oklahoma Christian 7-4 and 13-0.

Game One: OCU 7, SEU 4

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first putting up seven runs off of five walks and four RBI singles.

Neither team would score again until the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh, the Hilltoppers put up four runs to pull within three, but it was too little too late as their comeback fell short.

Alexis Massie drove in the Hilltoppers first run on a solo home run over the right-field wall. Later in the inning, Jordan Neely singled home a run on an RBI single to right field, bringing the score to 7-2. Maddy Larson drove in the game's final two runs on an RBI single to center field.

McKenna Leamon was given the loss as she gave up four earned runs and walked three batters in one inning of work.

Game Two: OCU 13, SEU 0

The second game was much of the same as the Eagles once again jumped out to a big lead in the first inning.

The Eagles put up an eight-spot as they took a commanding 8-0 lead in the first. Four walks, five singles, and an HBP helped the eagles take the early lead.

In the second, an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly allowed the Eagles to tack on two more runs to extend their lead to 10-0 after two.

An RBI double in the bottom of the third gave the Eagles an 11-0 lead. And in the fourth, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly brought the score to 13-0.

McKenna Leamon picked up the loss giving up six runs on two hits and four walks in one inning.

SEU will look to move on from this series as they take on Cameron in a double-header on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
