Hilltoppers split doubleheader against Greyhounds

March 27, 2022

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's softball team won game one 1-0 and lost game two 3-2 against Eastern New Mexico.

Game One: SEU 1, ENMU 0

After a scoreless first, the Hilltoppers scored the game's only run in the bottom of the second. Lauren Hoyt slapped an RBI single to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.

One run was all starting pitcher McKenna Leamon needed as she was lethal in the circle. Leamon pitched a complete game shutout allowing just two hits while striking out eight batters to earn her seventh win of the season.

Game Two: ENM 3, SEU 2

The Greyhounds got off to a fast start putting up a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. An error allowed the Greyhounds to take the early lead.

After a scoreless second, the Greyhounds scored an unearned run to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. However, in the bottom of the third, Valerie Brant delivered a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.

In the top of the sixth, the Greyhounds took the lead 3-2 on an RBI single.

Cadie Currie pitched five-plus innings giving up one earned run on six hits while striking out four in the loss.
