LUBBOCK, Texas - In a Sunday afternoon matchup, the St. Edward's softball team dropped their doubleheader against #14 Lubbock Christian. The Hilltoppers lost game one 7-2 and game two 2-0. 

 

Game One: LCU 7, SEU 2

 

In the second, the Chaps scored the first runs of the game, taking a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. 

 

In the top of the third, an error allowed the Hilltoppers to pull within one bringing the score to 2-1. 

 

In the fifth, a fielder's choice and an error allowed the Chaps to put up two more runs extending their lead to 4-1. 

 

An RBI single for the Chaps gave them a 5-1 lead in the sixth. Later in the inning, a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly extended the Chaps lead to 7-1.

 

The Hilltoppers added a run in the seventh on a fielder's choice to bring the final score to 7-2.

 

McKenna Leamon allowed six earned runs on eight hits while striking out five in six innings of work. 

 

Game Two: LCU 2, SEU 0

 

Game two of Sunday's doubleheader was a pitcher's duel as both starting pitchers combined to allow just seven hits and two runs. 

 

A solo home run for the Chaps broke the tie in the fourth, giving them a 1-0 lead.

 

After a scoreless inning, the Chaps added to their lead on an RBI groundout to push the lead to 2-0.

 

Cadie Belle Currie pitched six innings giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out four batters.

 

The Hilltoppers are back in action Saturday to close out the regular season as they host the Rattlers in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
