Volleyball Falls To LCU in Five Sets

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball fell in five sets to Lubbock Christian in the first game of the weekend homestand, losing 25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 15-25, 9-15. 
 
St. Edward's set a strong tone with its serve early, recording five aces in the first set. Jaiden LaVanway keyed a 5-0 run with a pair of aces and three other serves that put Lubbock Christian out of system to give the Hilltoppers a 9-7 lead. 
 
The first set was a close contest with seven ties and three lead changes. Kelli Fording helped put the Lady Chaps away with three kills, two aces, and a block assist to give the Hilltoppers an early lead. 
 
Delaney Gregory delivered a spark off the bench in the second set, recording two quick kills and teaming with Audrey Quesnel on a block to spark a 7-0 run to give St. Edward's a 14-11 lead. LAUREN SCOTT and Addy Badley did the rest, combining for 11 kills on 19 attacks with no errors to lead the Hilltoppers to a .273 hitting percentage and an early 2-0 lead. 
 
Lubbock Christian found its footing in the third set, hitting .267, with three different hitters recording three kills. The Lady Chaps pushed the advantage in the fourth set with five service aces, limiting St. Edward's to a .103 hitting percentage. 
 
Payton Murray led Lubbock Christian to a fifth-set victory, putting down six kills on seven attacks to finish with 15 kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Lacie Schooley added 12 kills on a .263 hitting percentage, and Kiana Fallaha added 11 kills on a .095 hitting percentage. 
 
Badley led St. Edward's with 15 kills on an efficient .419 clip. Scott had 13 kills, and Fording added ten kills. Quesnell recorded seven block assists, and Cora Young contributed five block assists and two solo blocks with six kills on a .429 hitting percentage.
