AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball wrapped up its season with a five-set loss to Texas A&M International, falling 20-25, 25-15, 28-26, 22-25, 15-8.
The Hilltoppers opened with a solid first set, reeling off a 15-7 run midway through to open a 20-12 lead over the Dustdevils. St. Edward's got great production from
KELLI FORDING, who put down six kills on ten attacks with one error to key a Hilltopper attack that hit .222 in the set.
St. Edward's also got six blocks in the set, led by
DELANEY GREGORY and
CASSIDY COLE, who each had a solo block and two block assists.
Texas A&M International turned the tables in the second set, setting the tone with five service aces and a blanched attack with three different Dustdevils recording three kills on a team with a .211 hitting percentage for the set.
The third set went down to the wire and then some with nine ties and four lead changes ending in extra points.
CORA YOUNG sparked the Hilltoppers with three block assists off the bench, and the Hilltoppers totaled six team blocks and 13 kills. Texas A&M International countered with six kills each from Mia Molina and Anna Ligart to take the set and a 2-1 lead.
St. Edward's led from start to finish in the fourth set. Gregory and
LOURDES GOMEZ led the Hilltoppers with four kills each on .571 and .231 hitting percentages, and Young, Cole,
LANDRY BAUGHMAN, and
ADDY BADLEY each had two kills in a balanced attack set by
NATALIA WALLS (eight assists in the set) and
JORDAN CHAPMAN (five assists).
Texas A&M International took the fifth set with an efficient .567 hitting percentage, getting four kills on six attacks from Guerra.
Gregory led the Hilltoppers with 12 kills, four block assists, and a solo block for 15 points. Gomez added nine kills, five block assists, and an ace. Cole posted six kills, six block assists, and three solo blocks.
SARAH KONOVODOFF led the team with 32 digs, and Walls (26 assists, 18 digs) and Chapman (18 assists, 14 digs) posted double-doubles.
St. Edward's wraps up its season with a 7-21 record, including 3-13 in conference play.
