Women's Basketball Breaks 100 In Win Over Arlington Baptist

AUSTIN, Texas – JANIAH PERKINS recorded her first collegiate double-double with 21 points and ten assists to lead the Hilltoppers to a 112-48 win over Arlington Baptist, tied for the fifth-most points scored in program history. 
 
Playing in front of a crowd of Travis Heights Elementary's third, fourth, and fifth-grade class, St. Edward's led from start to finish, scoring on its first possession of the game on a pass from AINSLEY THUNELL to Bailey Featherston for a layup, and never looked back. 
 
The Hilltoppers opened the game on an 18-0 run, hitting eight of their first nine shots and two free throws, with Featherstone and JANIAH PERKINS leading the team with six each over those first five minutes. As efficient as its offense was, the defense was even more potent, recording seven steals and forcing eight turnovers while allowing only three shot attempts. 
 
AINSLEY THUNELL, J.P., and LAUREN CATHERMAN recorded two steals each for six of the Hilltoppers' nine steals in the quarter, outscoring Arlington Baptist 16-3 in points off turnover and 16-2 in fast-break points to take a 28-5 lead. The Hilltoppers recorded more steals than rebounds (eight) and shot 12-for-16 from the field. 
 
St. Edward's expanded its lead to 35 points a little more than halfway through the second quarter with a 6-0 run capped off by a Featherstone putback in transition to give the Hilltoppers a 46-11 lead with 3:48 remaining in the half. Arlington Baptist closed the half with a 6-0 run, getting six points each from Jakayla Bradford and Joerdan Thomas to trail 52-23 at the break. 
 
First-years Featherstone and J.P. were nearly perfect from the field at 4-for-5 shooting each, with J.P. adding six free throws to lead all scorers with 14 points, seven assists, and four steals at the break. 
 
J.P. Remained steady with seven points and three assists in the third quarter, and St. Edward's shot under 60 percent for the only time in four quarters to take a 74-39 lead into the fourth. 
 
St. Edward's outrebounded Arlington Baptist 25-9 in the fourth and got 35 points combined from seven different bench players, led by ISABEL LANGENBERG's seven points on 3-for-3 shooting. The Hilltoppers got three assists each from DAFNE GIANESINI and REBEKA RENCZES in a 38-9 fourth quarter. 
 
The Hilltoppers shot 58.3 percent from the field and assisted on 29 of its 42 made field goals, tied for the seventh most assists in program history. 
 
J.P. led five Hilltoppers in double figures. CELISE BOBBITT recorded a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double off the bench, Featherstone added 11 points on seven shots, and guards RONNIE CANTU and Renczes added ten each, with the latter also contributing five assists. J.P. also had five steals, and MIKAH CHAPMAN had five emphatic blocks. 
 
St. Edward's improves to 5-5 with the win. The Hilltoppers will return on Jan. 4 with a road game against Texas A&M International.
