LUBBOCK, Texas – St. Edward's men's basketball had its lowest scoring output of the season in an 82-57 loss to the Lubbock Christian Chaps.
GAVINO RAMOS and UCHE DIBIAMAKA were the lone Hilltoppers in double figures with a combined 22 points on 8-for-22 shooting. Ramos continued his recent shooting tear, hitting 4-for-7 from deep for a team-high 12 points, but had four turnovers.
St. Edward's shot 22-for-60 from the field and finished with more turnovers (11) than assists (10) for only the third time this season.
Lubbock Christian stretched a six-point lead into double figures midway through the first half on a 9-0 run punctuated by a Russell Harrison 3-pointer to give the Chaps a 29-14 lead with 9:26 remaining before the break. Harrison led an explosive first half for Lubbock Christian, scoring 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers. Rowan Mackenzie added 11 on seven shots. Three other players scored seven points in the first half to give Lubbock Christian a 50-26 lead at the break.
Ramos led the Hilltoppers with nine points on 3-for-6 shooting in the half. BLAKE NIELSEN added six points on five shots.
St. Edward's found better balance in the second half but still surrendered better than 50 percent shooting from the field. SEAN ELKINTON and UCHE DIBIAMAKA led the Hilltoppers in the second half with seven points each. However, no other Hilltopper hit more than one field goal in the second half.
Mackenzie led Lubbock Christian with 20 points. Harrison finished with 16, Kurt Wegscheider added 15, and Najeeb Muhammad finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
St. Edward's falls to 20-8 with a 14-5 conference record after the loss. The Hilltoppers will remain on the road and play West Texas A&M on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
