SAN MARCOS, Calif. – St. Edward's volleyball opened its participation in The Cougar Classic hosted by Cal State San Marcos with a pair of losses, falling to Colorado College School of Mines (RV) in three sets, and host Cal State San Marcos in five.
Game 1: Colorado School of Mines 3, St. Edward's 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18)
ADDY BADLEY was St. Edward's most efficient hitter who also had ten or more attacks, posting five kills on a .312 hitting percentage. She also had one service ace, a solo block, and a block assist to lead the Hilltoppers with 7.5 points.
The Hilltoppers posted six aces and eight team blocks to go with 20 kills.
SARAH KONOVODOFF led the team in digs with 11, and Cole Cassidy had three block assists.
Rose Stuewe led the Colorado School of Mines with ten kills on a .320 hitting percentage. Morgan McChesney and Madison Glassco had eight kills each for a team that hit .248 for the match.
Game 2: Cal State San Marcos 3, St. Edward's 2 (22-25, 20-25, 25-10, 25-19, 15-11)
St. Edward's opened its second match by winning back-to-back sets before Cal State San Marcos rallied to take the match in five.
KELLI FORDING led St. Edward's with 14 kills, two aces, and a solo block for 17 points.
JORDAN CHAPMAN (19 assists) and
NATALIA WALLS (15 assists) combined for 34 assists, with the latter also contributing two kills and four aces. Badley added eight kills on a .263 clip. Konovodoff led the team with 22 digs.
Cal State San Marcos posted 11 team blocks and 54 kills, led by Trinity Barr's 19 kills on a .372 hitting percentage.
St. Edward's drops to 1-4 this season with two more matches in California. The Hilltoppers play Seattle Pacific University (RV) tomorrow at noon., followed by a 2 p.m. match against Concordia University Irvine.
