AUSTIN, Texas – After a slow start, St. Edward's volleyball found its rhythm but fell in three sets to a Dallas Baptist Patriots looking to get back into the Top 25, losing 25-16, 27-25, 25-21.
St. Edward's and Dallas Baptist opened the first set relatively even, with the latter leading 10-9 when a Hilltopper service error put the ball back in the hands of Jenna Michael, whose line-drive serves kept the Hilltoppers out of system and recorded two aces. The Patriots made several big runs, getting four kills on nine attacks from Karley Wells and hitting .316 as a team.
The Hilltopper attack found some balance in the second set, with
CORA YOUNG playing nearly flawless volleyball for four kills on five attacks and two block assists.
KELLI FORDING added four kills, and
MIA CLAY had three on seven attacks. Dallas Baptist also hit above .300.
St. Edward's front row managed five blocks, led by
ADDY BADLEY's three block assists in the third set, but Delaney Fuller had five kills for DBU, and Wells was efficient with four kills on .500 hitting to close the match.
Fording had a team-high 10 kills. Young tied Fording in points, recording seven kills on .545 hitting with four block assists, a solo block, and an ace.
ALTHEA MORRIS had 36 assists, and
JORDAN CHAPMAN led the team with 11 digs. Wells and Fuller combined for 23 kills, and the Patriots recorded nine aces.
St. Edward's falls to 9-7 with a 1-4 conference record. The Hilltoppers will host UT-Tyler tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
